What Ink stores

Notes, projects, revisions, imported-source text, settings, and search indexes are stored in Ink's private app container on your device. Imported attachments remain in the app container. Ink does not operate an account database for the app.

iCloud

On Apple devices, if you explicitly enable the readable iCloud Drive backup, Ink keeps managed Markdown copies of active notes in the Ink folder in your iCloud Drive. This gives you a user-accessible backup and way to browse your writing outside the app. Cross-device changes sent through CloudKit are separately optional and encrypted by Ink before upload. The Markdown copies are protected by your Apple account and iCloud settings, but they are not additionally encrypted by Ink.

Apple processes iCloud data under its own terms and privacy policy. You can turn CloudKit cross-device sync off in Ink. Disabling the readable backup stops future updates; existing copies remain until you remove them. To remove or restore a managed iCloud Drive copy, use Ink's delete and restore controls so the local workspace and its mirror stay consistent. Export notes before making a major storage or account change.

Optional AI providers

AI is off by default. If you connect a provider, Ink sends only the material needed for the action you request—such as selected text, the open note, or source excerpts—directly to that provider. Ink does not proxy or retain those requests on an Ink Suite server. The provider's terms, retention policy, and model-training choices apply. A local Ollama connection can keep requests on your own device or network.

Clipping, imports, and integrations

When you explicitly clip a public web page, Ink sends that page's address to retrieve and save its text in your workspace. Ink currently includes no advertising SDK, third-party analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking.

Permissions

Ink may request system permissions such as network access for optional sync, clipping, or AI features. You can deny those permissions in system settings and continue using the rest of Ink.

This website

This website does not require an account and does not use advertising or cross-site tracking. Our hosting provider may use essential security measures, including a temporary bot-management cookie, to keep the site available. If you email support, we receive the address, message, and attachments you choose to send and retain them only as needed to answer and maintain the service.
